The Sofia Bears consolidated their supremacy over the Bucharest Wars, defeating them 12-0 in the heart of the Romanian capital. The meeting was held on March 26 at 1 p.m. at one of the central rugby stadiums in Bucharest.
The match began with the performance of both national anthems and a minute's silence for the victims of the earthquake in Japan. After the first whistle, the first half was dominated by the Bulgarian team. The Romanians were totally outplayed physically by the Bulgarian players in defense led by the linebacker Alexander Kenanov, and in attack only the mistakes of the receivers of the Bears and the referee's decisions prevented the Bulgarian team from scoring. At the very end of the half, a safety was called off by the Bulgarian defense, which pushed the Romanian quarterback into his own end zone.
The second half started the same way, but gradually the bears began to advance more confidently on offense thanks to the strong play of the line and the good running of the two running backs - Plamen Partinov and Venelin Hadjisotirov. The game revived with the entry of the second quarterback - Paris Childress, after whose pass the receiver Nikolay Angelov scored the long-awaited touchdown.
Scoring points freed up the game of the Bulgarians even more, but on the other hand, incorrect refereeing decisions prevented the Bulgarians from scoring even more points. The Bears defense once again dominated and gave the Warriors offense no hope of scoring.
In the last quarter, with a wonderful run through the center by Partinov from about 30 yards and selfless blocks by everyone on the team, the score became 12:0. The Bulgarians missed the extra points twice.
In the end, it turned out to be a very physical clash in which the clearly better prepared Bears team prevailed. Thus, the Bulgarian team already leads with 3 to 2 victories over its Romanian rival.
The next match of the Sofia Bears will again be against the Voinite team, but this time in Sofia on May 8.
Also, on April 2 and 3 in Blagoevgrad, the Bears will participate in an American flag football tournament together with the Sofia Hawks and Blagoevgrad Griffins teams under the auspices of the American University of Blagoevgrad.
