The first American football camp in Bulgaria ended extremely successfully

From 16 to 18 October 2009, an American football training camp was held on the baseball field next to the Technical University. Under the auspices of IFAF (the International Federation of American Football), three of the best American football coaches in Sweden came to Bulgaria. Taking part in the three-day training camp were players from the Bulgarian teams Team Sofia and Pleven Bravehearts and the Romanian teams Bucharest Warriors and Bucharest Predators. In addition, at the invitation of the Bulgarian Federation of American Football, 2 French coaches also took part in the camp. Together with their Bulgarian and French colleagues, the Swedish coaches ran an extremely dynamic camp that the players found very interesting. The drills were aimed at improving technical skills and the correct execution of the tasks each player carries out according to his position. The emphasis was on speed and strength, but above all on safety in what is otherwise an extremely physical contact sport.

For the players who lasted all three days of the camp, it was a good opportunity to test their current level and get a feel for the standard of strong European American football, which is exactly what the Bulgarian team Team Sofia is aiming for.

Just a few months after becoming a full member of IFAF, the Bulgarian federation has held the first event in Bulgaria under the auspices of the international federation. Many more camps like this will surely follow, aimed at raising both the players' level of preparation and interest in American football in Bulgaria.
