Players from Germany train Team Sofia

On 4 March, the development of American football in Bulgaria received a big boost. On that day Martin and Sasha, members of the German 1st division side Assindia Cardinals, came over from Germany. Both are Bulgarian by nationality but live and work in Germany. They came at the invitation of Team Sofia – so far the only American football team in Bulgaria playing in full equipment.

For Team Sofia this was a great opportunity to train under the guidance of players from one of the strongest championships in Europe. The boys from Germany demonstrated new techniques and tactics and new drills, and trained potential assistant coaches. Particular emphasis was placed on physical conditioning and good discipline.

Before leaving, Martin and Sasha promised to keep supporting Team Sofia and following its development closely, and expressed the wish that one day Bulgaria will field a national team of its own.
