Six-time European sumo champion Petar Stoyanov visits Team Sofia

Six-time European sumo champion Petar Stoyanov visited a Team Sofia practice to coach the linemen on stance, footwork, explosiveness and the first hit.

On 19 November, the well-known Bulgarian sumo wrestler Petar Stoyanov visited one of Team Sofia's regular training sessions. It is well known that many American football teams borrow training methods from sumo, because of the similarities in the one-on-one clash. At the session, the sumo wrestler and his assistants made the boys on the team sweat hard. The main points of emphasis were positioning and the correct use of the legs, explosiveness and the first hit. The ease with which the sumo wrestler tossed around Team Sofia's otherwise sturdy 120–130-kilogram linemen was astonishing. For the boys on the team it was a wonderful opportunity to see new methods and drills that will help them prepare for the tough matches ahead.

At the end of the session Petar Stoyanov congratulated the team and promised to keep helping with Team Sofia's preparation in the future.
