Bears fall 22:27 to the Blue Dragons in Belgrade

The Sofia Bears lost 22:27 to the Blue Dragons in Belgrade in their third Balkan League game, a truly epic battle.

The favourites from Belgrade started strong and scored a touchdown, while the Bears answered with a field goal. The Dragons scored again behind a strong running game, but the Bears hit back straight away on the kick return – 14:10. Before half-time the hosts found the end zone once more and went in leading 20:10. Our defence never found an answer to their ground game.

The second half opened with another Dragons touchdown – 27:10. Then the Bears’ offence and defence came alive, and after a few excellent long passes the Bears scored two touchdowns to make it 27:22.

With a minute left the defence stopped the Dragons’ offence, but the Bears lost the ball on the following punt and the offence never got its chance to win the game.

Thank you to our hosts in Belgrade for the great organisation and a great game. The rematch is on 10 June in Sofia. Photos: Ruža Injac.
