Sofia Bears finished an extremely successful season
On July 3, at the old Akademik stadium, the Sofia Bears played the last match of the 2009/2010 season. The two teams made up of players of the "bears" - the Saints and the Dragons faced off in a demo match, which in terms of hitting, speed and passing was not inferior to the international matches played by the bears this year. After the match, the audience and the players ate from the prepared barbecue and toasted the hard but successful season with plenty of beer. In the first half - the fall of 2009 - the bears played 2 international matches and several domestic flag football tournaments. At the beginning of 2010, the team was unexpectedly left by the long-time coach Hristo Gyurkovski, but despite this, the team started its preparation on time. This was followed by 10 full kit domestic matches between Saints and Dragons, 1 flag football tournament and 2 internationals. The Sofia Bears achieved an all-important win in their first ever game against a Serbian team and finished the season with 3 out of 4 international matches won and cemented their authority as one of the best defensive teams in the Balkans. The team has a 2-month summer break - that is, gym training and sprints. The 2010-2011 season begins on September 6, and the team will face even stronger teams from neighboring countries and will participate for the first time in one of the European competitions - the EFAF Challenge Cup.
